The Faroese actress, director, and dramaturgist Ms Elin Karbech Mouritsen, made her first appearance on stage at the age of 13 as Willie in Tennessee Williams' This Property is Condemned; and since then she has been connected with the Thorshavn Theatre where she has played over 30 roles, including several leads. In the seventies The Danish-Faroese Cultural Fund awarded Ms Elin Karbech Mouritsen with a scholarship to attend the theatre school Studio 68 in London for a period of 4 months as an observer. During her stay there she was asked by artistic director Mr. Robert Henderson to play in Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina and Jean Giraudoux's Mad Woman of Chaillot, whereupon American guest actress Ms Blanche Yurka who played the Mad Woman offered to help and assist Ms Elin Karbech Mouritsen to a theatrical career in New York. Ms Yurka told Ms Elin Karbech Mouritsen that she was the one who helped Bette Davis to become the star that she turned out to be. Obviously Ms Elin Karbech Mouritsen was both touched and flattered by this kind offer from an elderly experienced actress such as Madame Yurka. However, she kindly declined the offer. When Mr Henderson heard that Ms Mouritsen was not leaving for New York, he asked her to stay in London for further engagements. Ms Mouritsen gratefully thanked him, but she had already decided to return to Denmark, Scandinavia. Ms Elin Mouritsen triumphs once more! Elin has created, dramatized and directed the one woman show: "Life was what it was - when it was over" The show is partly based upon the text from Edgar Lee Masters "Spoon River Anthology" and Elin's own text about a sixty years old bag lady's reflections on her life and the seven death sins. I've said it so often before and I take great pleasure in saying it one more time: Elin is amongst the greatest ACTRESS/STARS ever!! What a performance!! This sublime artist is: Phenomenal!! I salute you Elin. Oddva Nattestad The Arts Festival Cheaf Coordinator Elin Mouritsen during her live guest performance at the Nordic House in August 2001: "Oh lust, I remember you, Oh yes…"
